Heroic Eleven-Year-Old Girl Prevents Tragedy

MIAMI COUNTY, IN – Saturday, April 21, at approximately 2:29 p.m., Indiana State Police Telecommunications Operator Mike Hale received a 911 call from a frantic 11-year-old girl stating her mother was having a medical emergency. The girl did not know which county she was in, but could see a road sign with 300 S on it. At the same time, another call came into the Indiana State Police Post at Peru reporting a reckless driver on U.S. 31 at County Road 300 South in Miami County.

The Indiana State Police would like to remind drivers that Indiana law requires motorists to exercise caution when approaching an emergency vehicle that is stopped on the roadside with emergency lights activated.

The 2007/2008 school is year is about to begin in East Central Indiana. The start of school brings increased bus traffic and children waiting or walking near roadways. The Indiana State Police would like to remind motorists to watch for children in school zones and waiting to board buses, especially in the early morning hours.
