Welsh Is Right on the Issues
Bob Hertzog
I just listened to the Barry Welsh interview. I will make a comment or two, but first, in the interest of full disclosure, I want to say, I'm a volunteer on the Welsh campaign. So, what I say probably will not be the most objective observations.
Welsh is right about the war. Our diversion and focus on Iraq has taken us away from what should be our primary interest, combating terrorism. The center of that is in Afghanistan and Pakistan. That is where we need to focus our effort. If we had not allowed ourselves to get distracted in Iraq, I believe bin Laden would be in a prison, or dead, right now.
I liked what Barry had to say about property tax. As he noted, the current administration has given major tax breaks to the people who can most affort to pay taxes and, at best, a tiny break to regular folks. We need Democrats in congress to change that trend.
Barry said that when he takes office in 2009, he expects sixth district voters to hold him accountable for what he does. I really like that and that's what his campaign intends to do to Mike Pence.
