Indiana Wins Grant to Transform US Autoworkers and the Auto Industry
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The US Department of Labor today awarded the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) a $4 million grant to help transition US autoworkers to the careers of tomorrow and transform the auto industry.
Indiana will lead a tri-state partnership including the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth and the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services to conduct this research and build a roadmap to success for both individual workers and the auto companies.
Governor Daniels Selects Lt. Gov. Skillman to Oversee Stimulus Programs
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Governor Mitch Daniels today announced Lt. Governor Becky Skillman will oversee all state agencies' use of federal stimulus dollars that are expected to flow into Indiana when the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is signed into law.
"I've asked my partner, Becky Skillman, to lead our stimulus clearinghouse and make sure that the funds are properly and effectively spent," said Daniels. "Our goal is to put the money to use generating jobs as fast as or faster than any state in the nation."
December 2007 Indiana Employment Report
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Indiana's unemployment rate is the lowest in the six-state Midwest region for the eighth consecutive month, according to the monthly employment report released Friday, January 18, 2008 by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The state's unemployment rate decreased from 4.7 percent in November to 4.6 percent in December, and is now four-tenths of a percentage point below the national rate, which is at 5.0 percent.
September 2007 Indiana Employment Report
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Indiana's seasonally-adjusted unemployment fell in September from 4.9 percent to 4.5 percent and is the lowest in the Midwest, according to the monthly employment report released today by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. This is the second time in the last five months that the state's rate has dipped to 4.5 percent, the lowest rates reported since September 2001, when it stood at 4.4 percent.
August 2007 Indiana Employment Report
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Employment in Indiana’s payrolls increased 7,600 from July to August, according to the monthly employment report released today by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The state’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for August was reported at 4.9 percent, up from 4.6 percent in July. The nation’s unemployment rate remained the same at 4.6 percent.

Millers Health Systems Receives State Training Grant to Upgrade Nursing Staff
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana Department of Workforce Development and Indiana Economic Development Corporation have awarded a Training Acceleration Grant of $162,010 to Millers Health Systems, a Warsaw-based operator of 31 rehabilitation health care centers and 11 assisted living communities throughout Indiana. Millers Health Systems will supplement the state grant with a match of $178,650.
State awards $4.6 million in Training Acceleration Grants
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana Department of Workforce Development and Indiana Economic Development Corporation have awarded $4,631,696 in Training Acceleration Grants to 46 Indiana companies or consortia.
The Training Acceleration Grant program is the state’s primary incumbent worker training program. It provides matching grants to companies and organizations seeking to expand the skills of existing workers through training which results in industry-recognized credentials.
Workers from BorgWarner in Muncie Eligible for Federal Aid
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana Department of Workforce Development today announced a ruling by the U.S. Department of Labor that former employees of BorgWarner Diversified Transmission Products, Inc., TTS Division, Muncie, Indiana are eligible to receive services under the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance program.
The TAA program, which is administered at the state level by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, is made available to workers who are displaced due to foreign imports or shifts in production out of the country.
