Indiana State Police ERT to participate in 2007 SWAT World Challenge

INDIANA - In 2006, the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.) placed first in the S.W.A.T. competition held in Carmel, Indiana. This qualified them for a position at the 2007 S.W.A.T. World Challenge being held at United States Military Camp Robinson in Little Rock, Arkansas. The four day competition begins April 25th. This is the second time that an Indiana State Police team will participate in the challenge. 

The S.W.A.T. events test fitness, speed, organizational skills, and the teamwork of S.W.A.T. teams through a series of stress filled scenarios. There will be more than twenty-five teams from around the world who will compete this year. The challenge is limited to sworn police officers with powers of arrest in their home jurisdictions.  

The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team Commander, Captain Pat O’Connor stated, “This is a unique opportunity to gain information that will enhance departmental operations in the area of emergency response.”  He also commented that this competition provides instructional information in the areas of active shooter, S.W.A.T. medicine, vehicle stops, and the use of lethal force.  

The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team heading to Arkansas has troopers assigned throughout the northern half of the Indiana. The team members are: Sergeant Roger Dickison, Senior Trooper Chad Maxwell, Trooper Jason Sample, and Trooper Nathan Eaton are assigned to the Lowell District; Corporal Mike Young is assigned to the Toll Road District; Senior Trooper Corey Culler, Trooper Brian Walker and Senior Trooper Steve Smeltzley are assigned to the Fort Wayne District; Senior Trooper Chad Larsh is assigned to the Bremen District, and Senior Trooper Jeff Zeiger is assigned to the Redkey District.
