INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A ceremony to honor the departure of an Indiana National Guard unit deploying in support of the Global War on Terror is scheduled for Saturday, May 5.

Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, the Adjutant General for the State of Indiana, announces the departure ceremony for 125 Soldiers of the 2-238th General Aviation Support Battalion, to be held at 1 p.m. on the hanger floor of the Shelbyville Army Aviation Support Facility. A reception will follow in the north end of the hanger.

Among the guest speakers are Maj. Gen. Richard Moorhead, 38th Infantry Division Commander; Col. David Wood, Brigade Commander; and Lt. Col. Todd Townsend, Battalion Commander. Family, friends, service-members and retired personnel are invited to attend the ceremony.

The Soldiers of the 2-238th include medical evacuation specialists, utilizing Blackhawk helicopters, and the maintenance and technical repair experts who keep the helicopters in top condition in battlefield environments. These men and women are highly trained, committed individuals who will represent Indiana exceptionally well.

We are indebted to these citizen-Soldiers and their families for the sacrifices they are about to endure. They are an indispensable part of the team chosen to exhibit their skills in executing the Global War on Terrorism.
