I did a little research on the working habits of Americans. Turns out we are the least likely people to take a vacation! I also sent out a plea to Ellen DeGeneres to give herself a break since she goes on no matter what! vacation time
as someone self-employed, i find it hard to take vacations at the moment, but i'm sure i will take them once i get to that point in time.
when you compare the time taken off in the US versus elsewhere in the world, did you consider that maybe it's not the employees in the US who want less vacation time? that it's the corporations? i remember vacation time at The Star Press changed when Gannett bought them. you had to be there many many years for three weeks. A ridiculous number of years.
And it's been proven that people are more productive when they're not working 60+ hours a week. (corporations don't understand this, though, maybe, because the money keeps rolling in...)
And when I start to hire people, I'm going to do vacation differently maybe and model it off of the French. (I also like Google's 20% idea - where employees spend 20% (?) of their time each week on a project of their own choosing - a pet project.
Anyway, interesting show. Good to have you back here at MFP. Hopefully a few other readers/lurkers out there will speak up since you've gone all the way to video to talk to them.
