Hoosiers Invited to See Proposed Textbooks
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Superintendent of Public Instruction Suellen Reed last week invited Hoosiers to view the Language Arts and World Languages textbooks submitted to the Indiana State Board of Education for adoption in Indiana public schools.
Beginning Monday, July 16, 2007, public will have the opportunity to comment on the texts at ten locations around the state. Evaluation forms will be available at each site until August 30, 2007.
“This is an important opportunity for parents, students, educators and other interested citizens to review and comment on the appropriateness of the tools we use to teach our children,” Dr. Reed said. “We invite all interested Hoosiers to be a part of this process.”
The review is part of a legal requirement in the state’s textbook adoption process. In addition to the evaluation forms, interested parties may offer verbal testimony on September 5, 2007, when the advisory committee meets before making its recommendations to the State Board of Education.
Once approved, the books will be used in schools for the next six years.
For more information on textbook adoption, see www.doe.state.in.us/olr/textbook.

Is anyone else interested in joining and have a date in mind?
