First Phase of Ivy Tech Community College $34.2 Million Technology Systems Upgrade Kicks Off

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, the nation’s largest single accredited state-wide community college system, has launched the first phase of its $34.2 million, multi-year, information technology system upgrade.

Ivy Tech has also developed and relied on a wide variety of information technology solutions to deliver and support its educational, service and operational activities.  Having utilized the same information systems for nearly 20 years, the College recognized that it needed greater functionality to serve a diverse constituency, expanded support for academic activities, better management/planning data, and extended self-service for students, faculty, staff and alumni.  An extensive search process resulted in the selection of Banner, SunGard Higher Education’s flagship product, an integrated suite of administrative software applications built specifically for higher education institutions.

Tony Harte Ivy Tech Chief Technology Officer said, “Ivy Tech has experienced substantial growth and it became apparent that a new, integrated information system was needed to adequately support not only continued growth, but to meet the current needs of our students and business partners.”

The project includes the College’s systems for finance, admissions, financial aid, student services, human resources and advancement. The first module, finance systems, successfully launched this month and the final phases will go live January 2009.

“The launch of the finance systems is creating cost savings for the college by streamlining processes and increasing efficiency,” said Mark Husk, Ivy Tech Community College Assistant Treasurer.

“Ivy Tech’s commitment to the project’s success extends far beyond the dollar investment. Each module requires hours of training, as the systems are utilized statewide in all of the college’s 14 regions and 23 campuses. It is that commitment that has kept us on schedule and in budget. This project is doing great things for Ivy Tech” said Harte.

Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s second largest public post-secondary institution with over 105,000 students enrolled annually.  Ivy Tech has 23 campuses throughout Indiana.  It serves as the state's engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana.  It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
