Letter: Simplifying Taxes

Sometimes we make things more complicated than they need to be. While the ultimate goal should be to do away with property taxes, in the transition period we could simplify the process by figuring the tax on square foot basis. Simply set rates for residences, businesses, and land, then tax everyone in the classification the same.

This would do away with the cost of assessors and assessments, and the government would know exactly how much money it would receive from the tax. It could then adjust its budget accordingly, just like the taxpayers do with their budgets.
