Farm Bureau’s Annual Policy Session to be Held August 25

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Nearly 300 voting delegates from every county in the state will come together in Indianapolis on Aug. 25 for Indiana Farm Bureau’s annual delegate session. The session will be held at the Adams Mark–Airport in Indianapolis.

An integral part of Farm Bureau’s grassroots process, the session allows delegates the opportunity to go through IFB’s policy book, the document that guides the organization throughout the year. Delegates hear, discuss and vote on policy recommendations from county Farm Bureaus, commodity advisory committees and the state resolutions committee, which is the committee that considers suggested policy changes and brings a recommendation to the full delegate body. Policy changes will also be brought up from the delegate floor.

Among the major topics expected to be discussed by the delegates are property taxes, the next farm bill, the impact of local planning and zoning on animal agriculture, and biofuels.

For many years, the delegate session was held during IFB’s annual state convention in December, but beginning in 2003, the session was moved to August to allow greater lead-time for policy implementation in the Indiana General Assembly and in the November elections.
