INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The 2007 Annual Statewide Conference on Housing and Community Economic Development today announced “Katrina Cottage” designer Marianne Cusato as the keynote speaker. The conference will take place September 19 through September 21 at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.
Listed as number four on Builder Magazine’s annual roster of most influential people in home building, Cusato is the designer of the “Katrina Cottage 1,” which was created as an alternative to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) trailers after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. She is widely respected in the building industry as a leading expert in creating well-designed homes and communities for people of all income levels.
“Each year this conference presents a wonderful opportunity for exchange of ideas and partnership opportunities,” said Sherry Seiwert, Executive Director of Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA.) “We are excited about hosting Marianne and the other speakers and hearing their ideas to address affordable housing and community development.”
IHCDA, the Indiana Association for Community Economic Development (IACED), and the Indiana Coalition on Housing and Homeless Issues (ICHHI) sponsor the annual conference that allows participants to share ideas through a series of workshops, groupplenary sessions, and nationally-known keynote speakers. Conference attendees include developers, not-for-profit organizations, community housing development organizations, trade associations, state agencies, and state and local elected officials.
