DUI Patrols set for September 7th

INDIANA - The Indiana State Police will conduct a DUI enforcement patrol within the Redkey District, Friday September 7^th into the morning of the 8th. Troopers will patrol Blackford, Delaware, Grant, Jay and Randolph Counties from 9:00 p.m. - 4:00 a.m. looking for drivers who are operating a motor vehicle while impaired and under age drinkers.

Troopers are participating in the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute's Operation Pull Over Blitz # 52 that began August 24^th and will conclude September 9^th. This enforcement effort focuses on impaired driving, "You Drink and Drive, You Loose".

During 2006, 273 people were killed and 5,874 people injured in impaired related crashes throughout the State of Indiana.

"Driving impaired or riding with someone who is impaired is not worth the risk." Lt. Andy Coffee, Commander of the Redkey District said," "The consequences are serious and real. Not only do you risk killing yourself or someone else, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for driving while impaired can be significant."

A FEW PRECAUTIONS:

• Plan ahead and always designate a sober driver before consuming alcohol.
• Don't get behind the wheel of your vehicle if you've been out drinking.
• If you are impaired, call a taxi or get a sober friend or family member to come and get you.
• Remember - Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk. Take the keys and never let a friend leave your sight if you think they are about to drive while impaired.
• If you are hosting a party, always offer alcohol-free beverages during the event, and make sure all of your guests leave with a sober driver.
