Pence: Freedom Will Prevail in Iraq
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence gave the following speech on the floor of the U.S. House this morning regarding the testimony of General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker last week on Capitol Hill:
“Through a hailstorm of political attacks that continue on the floor of the Congress this morning, last week, America’s two lead men in Iraq brought news to this Congress which should be welcome to every American family.
“Despite the lack of political progress at the national level in Iraq, the military surge is working. Because the surge is working, our troops can start coming home. I urge every American to tune out the rhetoric in Washington, DC, and read the report.
“But don’t just read the testimony of General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker, read the recent report issued by the more liberal-leaning Brookings Institution. In each case, our men and that liberal think tank found civilian deaths are down, Sunni leaders are cooperating with US forces and al-Qaeda is on the run in Baghdad and al Anbar Province.
“These independent assessments should be read by every American, and every American should be encouraged. For even to a war-weary nation I say, if we do not grow weary in doing good, freedom will prevail in Iraq.”

Pence must stop the denial
Denying reality is not very becoming of the Representative. Pence must stop denying the reality on the ground in Iraq and quit being a lapdog for the Bush administration. No one in their right mind actually believes that Freedom Will Prevail in Iraq. Not now, not ever, it is time for the people of America to send new leadership to DC that will really support our troops by bringing them home.
It's time for change.
More or less Pence says if we stick out long enough we will win. I don't think anyone ever doubted the amazing talent of our soldiers, or their incredible devotion to the extremely difficult work that they are doing. However i think that their are several people here who are doubting that this is the best use of tax payers dolars. Something that someone who is always pounding his chest about protecting tax payers dollars, he even voted against spending our money in New Orleans after Katrina, because he was against emergency spending bills, should understand. I think a much better use of our taxes would be doing something about climbing food costs, climbing medical bills, climbing foreclosures, climbing property taxes, climbing unemployment, climbing costs of education, etc.
Its time for a change, and i can't wait for 2008, it's time to throw Pence and the rest of them out on the street, and see how they do when they have to survive like the rest of us.
