Three Vehicle Crash on I65 Leaves one Dead

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Indiana State Police troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on I-65 southbound south of the Greenwood exit on Sunday night. One man was killed and another was injured as a result of the crash.

Trooper Tyler Van Ness and other troopers responded to the crash on Sunday, September 23, 2007, at about 9:35 pm. The crash occurred on I-65, about a quarter mile south of the Main St., Greenwood exit.  The initial investigation indicated a white 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck was northbound on I-65 south of the Greenwood exit and crossed the median and traveled into the southbound lanes.

After traveling into the southbound lanes the Chevy pickup struck a 2004 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer nearly head-on.  The tractor-trailer was owned by J.B. Hunt Trucking.  Debris from the crash then struck a third vehicle.  No one in the third vehicle was injured. The deceased was the Chevy pickup's only occupant.

Troopers at the scene indicated there was no preliminary evidence suggesting that alcohol or drug use had contributed to the crash. The deceased was identified as Michael K. Mosier age 45, 300 North Sycamore Street Gaston, IN. This is an ongoing investigation and further details may be available in the future.

The following information identifies the participants of the crash:

   1. Deceased: Michael K. Mosier age 45, Gaston, IN. driving a white 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck, declared dead at the scene
   2. Injured: Rick A. Magill age 39, Tolleson, AL. driving a white 2004, Freightliner; transported to Wishard Hospital complaining of pain to lower extremities.
   3. Uninjured: Frank Sizemore age 35, Jackson, KY. driving a 1992 Toyota

The southbound lanes of I-65 were closed for about three hours due to the crash and subsequent investigation. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
