Locals honored during Hoosier Helper Week

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -  Yesterday was the kickoff celebration for Hoosier Helper Freeway Service Patrol Week (Sept. 24-30).

In Northwest Indiana, Hoosier Helpers patrol 34 miles of I-65, I-80/94 and I-94 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Through changing tires, fixing minor mechanical problems, jump-starting vehicles, removing roadway debris, administering first aid and much more since 1991, more than 350,000 motorists across the state have benefited from the Hoosier Helpers.

Gov. Mitch Daniels signed a proclamation (a copy of which is to the right in the picture) declaring Hoosier Helper week and thanking the Hoosier Helper Freeway Service Patrol program for keeping Indiana interstates safe and efficient, which is vital to Indiana's economic growth.

Stacy Flick, left, manger of the Borman Traffic Management Center in Gary, shakes hands with eight-year Hoosier Helper veteran and Portage resident Jerry Harnung at  the Hoosier Helper Freeway Service Patrol Week (Sept. 24-30) kickoff celebration in Indianapolis on Sept. 24.
