State Agency Awards $3 Million to Community Action Agencies for Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) today awarded $3 million to 24 Community Action Agencies across the state through the HOME Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program. The agencies estimate that when combined, the grant money will fund rehabilitation activities for 118 homes.

“Through community action agencies, we are helping Hoosiers preserve their largest asset – their homes,” said Lt. Governor Becky Skillman.  “HOME OOR helps homeowners afford much-needed repairs to make their homes safer and more enjoyable.”

The HOME OOR Program provides funding for the rehabilitation of homes for the elderly, persons with disabilities, and families with children under the age of six who do not have the resources to pay for needed repairs.  This program was developed to complement the Weatherization Program, which is also administered by the Community Action Agencies. Together, these agencies serve all 92 counties in the state.

Examples of some of the activities funded under this program include installing ramps, removing lead-based paint, installing or repairing roofs and siding, electrical and plumbing needs, replacing windows, and incorporating disability access. Interested applicants should consult their local Community Action Agency for guidelines on income qualifications.

“Receiving assistance like this can make the difference between being able to stay in your current home and having to move to another location in order to live safely,” said Sherry Seiwert, Executive Director of IHCDA.
