Pursuit Ends in Police Action Shooting

HENDRICKS COUNTY, IN - Investigation into the early morning police action shooting of the suspect involved in the Terre Haute homicide continues. 

Terre Haute police were called to the scene of an apparent homicide around 11:00 p.m. late Wednesday night. Police began looking for a black 2003 GMC SUV that was reportedly being driven by the male suspect with four children ranging from age’s two to six.

Police made contact with the vehicle on I-70 and a pursuit started east bound to the 62.5 mm. After stopping, the officers were successful in the release of three of the four children. The suspect had the fourth child sitting on his lap and had a handgun in his possession.

According to officers, the suspect became increasingly agitated and raised the handgun toward officers and the child in a threatening manner at which time an Indiana State Police Officer fired one shot, fatally wounding the suspect. 

The suspect has been identified as Major Jones III, 28, 6287 Twyckenham Dr., Indianapolis In. 46236 

The children were not harmed and have been released to the Vigo County Department of Child Services.

The trooper involved is identified as Terry Watson, 27, of the Indianapolis District. Trooper Watson is a three year veteran and a member of the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team. (Swat) 

Further inquiries concerning the Terre Haute homicide investigation should be directed to the Terre Haute Police Department.
