MCS Board Members, Superintendent Attend Fall Conference

MUNCIE, INDIANA - Muncie Community School Superintendent Marlin B. Creasy, Ph.D., and MCS Board of School Trustees members were among more than 1,000 public school board members and school administrators that attended the Indiana School Boards Association/Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents 58th annual Fall Conference at the Indiana Convention Center/RCA Dome in Indianapolis October 1-2.

School board members Julius Anderson, Marilyn Carey, Michael Gorin, Jennifer Abrell, and Kevin Smith heard real case scenarios about solving a problem, improving an existing program, or developing a new program in their school corporation in the popular “Share Your Success” sessions. 

Some of the topics included Building School/Community Relationships Through “Vision”, School Board Meeting Enhancement: From Conceptualization to Implementation, Using Data to Make School Building Closing Decisions, Creating a Culture of Quality, Win the Remonstrance Before it Starts!, The Decatur Story: Reinvention of a School Corporation, Changing the Culture of Your School With PBIS, One Unique Regional Alternative Program, The Baldridge Model: Putting Theory Into Practice, and A Systems Approach at Work in Indiana.

The conference features clinic sessions such as:  CEEP: Recent Education Data – Full Day, Graduation Rate, Closing Achievement Gap and Others, NCLB Update, DLGF: Property Tax & Bond Reassessment Issues, IEERB: Collective Bargaining Data & Agency Mission, Pandemic Influenza: Catastrophe Waiting to Happen. Is Your School Ready?, Board Goals in the Real World, Ensuring Good Board/ Superintendent Relationships, Effective Board Meetings, Special Education Update, Review of Open Door Law and Access to Public Records Act, and Indiana State Budget and Revenues - Current Issues and Future Predictions.

Board members also attended general sessions hearing outstanding national speakers including Dr. James H. Johnson, Jr., Professor, University of North Carolina, and Troy D. Evans, professional speaker and author, Phoenix, AZ.
