Jill Long Thompson Wins Key Endorsement
ARGOS, IN - Jill Long Thompson today announced that State Senator Earline Rogers (D-Gary) has endorsed her campaign for Governor. Rogers has served 25 years in the Indiana General Assembly and worked for 38 years as a public school teacher.
"Jill Long Thompson has the experience and leadership qualities Indiana needs to get back on the right track," said Senator Rogers. "Jill gives Democrats their best chance of defeating Mitch Daniels."
Rogers added, "Jill will be a governor for the whole state and will put the concerns of Northwest Indiana at the top of her agenda. And like me, Jill is a former teacher who will make education and job training a real priority. I look forward to campaigning and working with her in the months ahead."
Long Thompson said "I am very honored that Senator Rogers is endorsing my candidacy for Governor. There is no one in the Indiana General Assembly who is more highly regarded. I look forward to working with her on important issues such as improving our schools and attracting good paying jobs to our state."
Rogers' endorsement comes on the heels of the first independent poll showing Jill Long Thompson with a wide lead for the Democratic nomination and within striking distance of Governor Mitch Daniels.
Jill Long Thompson represented Northeast Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from 1989 to 1995. She served as Under Secretary of Agriculture for Rural Development from 1995 to 2001. Long Thompson formerly served as C.E.O. of the National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy. She received her B.S. in Business from Valparaiso University and M.B.A. and PH.D. in Business from Indiana University. Jill Long Thompson and her husband Don Thompson, a commercial airline pilot, live on their family farm in Marshall County.
