Stand-off in Rockport, IN Ends Peacefully
SPENCER COUNTY, IN - Monday, October 8, at approximately 11:24 a.m. the Indiana State Police received information that William L. Rush, 40, Cloverport, KY, was driving a blue 1991 Buick in route to Rockport IN to possibly do harm to him or a loved one.
At approximately 12:42 p.m. CDT officers from the Indiana State Police, Spencer County Sheriffs Department, and Rockport City Police spotted the vehicle on State Road 66 just east of Rockport. Rush refused to stop for the officers after they tried to initiate a traffic stop. After a short pursuit Rush stopped his vehicle at 5th and Main in Rockport. Rush displayed a handgun to the officers so the officers set a perimeter and began negotiating with Rush.
Negotiators from the Tell City Police Department, Indiana State Police, and Warrick County Sheriffs Department negotiated with Rush for approximately three and half hours. At approximately 4:15 p.m. the stand-off ended peacefully after rush threw the .357 revolver out of the car. Rush was transported to the Spencer County Sheriffs Department.

- Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, D-Felony
- Felon in Possession of a Handgun, B-Felony
- Parole Violation Warrant from the KY Parole Board
The Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by: Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team, Tell City Police Department, Spencer County Sheriffs Department, Warrick County Sheriffs Department, Rockport City Police Department, Santa Claus Police Department, Dale Police Department, and the Christney Police Department.
