Three MCS Retirement Resignations Accepted

MUNCIE, Ind. - The retirement resignation of Bill Reiter, Director of Facilities and Operations for Muncie Community Schools, was accepted at Tuesday’s MCS Board of School Trustees meeting effective December 31, 2007. Mr. Reiter has served in this position for 22 years, currently overseeing the district’s facilities including the ten elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, the Muncie Area Career Center, the Muncie Fieldhouse and various other ancillary facilities including over 2 million square feet of “physical plant.”

Mr. Reiter has overseen the current Facilities Renovation Project since the corporation initiated a total school facility assessment in 2003 when a comprehensive study of the district’s facilities revealed that major renovations were recommended for the two high schools and four of the then 12 elementary schools. Mr. Reiter has been an administrator for Muncie Community Schools for 34 years serving in administration longer than any other current administrator. Supt. Marlin B. Creasy said Mr. Reiter had done “an exceptional job for Muncie Community Schools.”

In a shift of administrative responsibilities, Don Holderman, former Director of Student Services, will serve as Director of Facilities and Lon Sloan, Administrative Assistant-Business, was named Assistant Director/Operations at the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year.

Other resignations accepted by the Board were from Connie Gullion, North View Elementary first grade teacher, effective October 12, 2007. She has been with Muncie Community Schools for 35 years. North View Fourth Grade Teacher Linda Receveur will retire November 9, 2007, after serving Muncie Community Schools for 26 years.

Mike Austin, JROTC Instructor, received a coach appointment as head girls’ softball coach for Central High School for the 2007-2008 school year.

The board approved claims for payment for $3,863,919.38 and accepted donations totaling $4,551. Of that amount, donations for merchandise or services to Northside Middle School for the September 27 benefit event for Northside Middle School Assistant Principal Brad Maine totaled $1,123. NMS Principal Chris Smith reported that the event netted over $7,000 for the Maine family.

Dr. Creasy gave a report on the Preliminary Balanced Scorecard for 2007-2008 – a document utilized in place of previous “Short Term Goals” that comprehensively examines all aspects of the corporation looking at “where we are, where we think we should be, and where we are headed with the number one goal of the Board of School Trustees being student academic achievement.”
