Gabbard Promoted to Telecommunications Specialist IV
MUNCIE, Ind. - Indiana State Police Superintendent Paul Whitesell, Ph.D. has announced the promotion of Telecommunications Specialist V, Linda D. Gabbard to Telecommunications Specialist IV, and transferred to the Indiana State Police Criminal Justice Data Division.
Gabbard, a twenty-three year veteran of the Indiana State Police, started her career at the Redkey District in 1984 as a telecommunications operator. She was promoted to telecommunications supervisor in 1997 and her duties were to supervise the telecommunications operators at the Redkey District.
Telecommunications operators working with the Indiana State Police are responsible for dispatching troopers and motor carrier inspectors to calls for service. They are required to remain composed in many different emergency situations and must have the ability to speak calmly and clearly. They are proficient in the many tools of their trade from telephones, computers, two-way radios, fax machines and they are also required to be certified in emergency medical dispatch. Indiana State Police telecommunications operators are also certified in entering information in the Indiana Data and Communications System (IDACS) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
Gabbard's new duties require her to train telecommunications operators on Indiana Data and Communications System (IDACS) and Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) that are employed by 104 other law enforcement agencies in the northern half of Indiana. She will also carry out those responsibilities at the Toll Road, Bremen, Ft. Wayne, Peru, Pendleton and Redkey Indiana State Police Districts.
Gabbard is a Muncie Southside High School graduate and has attended numerous training courses related to her career. She resides in Muncie, Indiana and in her spare time spends time with her family and loves to fish.
