The Neocon's Unpleasant Choice

Perhaps, you will pardon a brief moment of schadenfreude.  America’s neocons that wild and crazy group which so generously brought us George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, warrantless surveillance, torturing of prisoners, and the Iraq war, have a serious problem.  It looks like Republicans are going to elect pro-abortion, pro-immigration, and pro-gun control Rudy Giuliani as their nominee for President of the United States.  Giuliani may be a Republican, but to the average neocon, he is an abomination.

So, what’s a respectable neocon to do?  Some say if Giuliani gets the nomination, they will start a third party.  Surely, you jest!  A third party of necons, would be the political equivalent of a kamikaze mission for Republicans.  Doing this would certainly elect whoever the Democrats nominate, probably Hillary Clinton, the only person on the planet that neocons dislike more than Rudy Giuliani.

How frightful for them.  How humiliating it will be.  How delightful!  Neocons have the very unpleasant choice between supporting their party’s likely nominee (the very unneocon like Giuliani) for President, or starting a third party and thereby blowing out of the water any little hope that Republicans have of holding the White House, in 2009.  I’m waiting with bated breath to see what they’re going to do.
