Ball State Campus to go Smoke-free

MUNCIE, Ind. - According to an email sent to students and faculty with BSU email accounts, President Jo Ann Gora has announced that Ball State Campus plans to go 'smoke-free' by March 2008.

In the email, Gora mentioned that when the smoking ban goes into effect, Ball State will be one of approximately 40 colleges nationwide that don't allow smoking on campus.

Kay Bales will chair the Smoke-Free Campus Implementation Task Force.  Bales is vice president of student affairs and dean of students.

Other members on the task force include Sandy Cameron, communications manager; Jeff Clark, physiology and health science professor; Rhonda Clark, police sergeant, department of public safety; Kelsey Crim, student; Zac Davis, student; Alan Hargrave, associate vice president of student affairs; Patty Hollingsworth, manager of health enhancement programs; Jim McKenzie, physiology and health science professor; Tom Morrison, associate vice president of business affairs; Tara Presley; student; Brien Smith, chairman of the marketing and management department and chairman of the Faculty Council; and Lisa Thomason, health educator.

Ball State currently offers free smoking cessation classes to students and faculty. Visit www.bsu.edu/workingwell or  www.bsu.edu/yourhealth for more information.

Smokers

I know the decision has already been made (and it seems most wanted a smoke-free campus), but I wonder if anyone on the Task Force is a smoker or not. Would be best to have at least one or two smokers on there, I think.

Also, kudos to BSU for offering free smoking cessation classes.

I'm trying to get permission to print the letter she sent out. Will post here if they're ok with it.
