Daniels Praises 10 Hoosier Companies for Environmental Leadership

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Governor Mitch Daniels and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) have announced 10 new members to Indiana's Environmental Stewardship Program, or "ESP." The companies were accepted into the program after agreeing to continuous environmental improvements and demonstrating long-term compliance with environmental laws.

“These 10 Indiana companies achieved tremendous results,” Daniels said. “They demonstrate that economic activity and environmental protection can work together.”

These companies are ESP's newest members:

  • Baxter Pharmaceutical Solutions, LLC (Bloomington, Monroe County)
  • Bert R. Huncilman & Son, Inc. (New Albany, Floyd County)
  • Camcar LLC (Acument Global Technologies) (Rochester, Fulton County)
  • Cummins Columbus Midrange Engine Plant (Columbus, Bartholomew County)
  • DePuy, Inc. (Johnson & Johnson Company) (Warsaw, Kosciusko County)
  • Eaton Clutch Division – Auburn Facility (Auburn, Dekalb County)
  • Eli Lilly and Co., Clinton Laboratories (Clinton, Parke County)
  • First Vehicle Services – Fort Wayne (Fort Wayne, Allen County)
  • Madison Precision Products, Inc. (Madison, Jefferson County)
  • Metaldyne Sintered Components (Metaldyne Corporation) (North Vernon, Jennings County)

"ESP members voluntarily eliminate wastes, preserve resources and protect the environment. They deserve recognition for going beyond basic requirements of the law," said Thomas W. Easterly, commissioner of IDEM, the state agency that manages ESP.

In return for outstanding environmental action, ESP members can receive accelerated permit review, flexibility in permitting, less frequent data review and other benefits that will aid the company without loosening current environmental regulations.

The new members have committed to continuous improvement in the coming three years. Collective efforts during their first year of membership will result in these reductions:

  • Energy usage by approximately 25 percent;
  • Water usage by approximately 10 percent;
  • Volatile organic compound emissions by 55 tons; and,
  • Non-hazardous waste by 298 tons.
