Ball State University Foundation Executive Earns Specialized Financial Designation

MUNCIE, Ind. - Thomas Heck, vice president for operations and treasurer of the Ball State University Foundation, recently earned a chartered financial analyst designation awarded by the CFA Institute.

Heck's designation demonstrates to donors and the investment community that the foundation has a commitment to the highest standards of management and oversight of its investment portfolio. Over time, the commitment will provide greater financial support for Ball State University and its students.

To be awarded the charter, a candidate must meet numerous professional and ethical requirements and pass three exams. Although the pass rate at each level is between 40 percent and 60 percent, Heck passed each of three exams on the first try.

The CFA Institute is a global membership organization that was proposed in 1942 by Benjamin Graham, who was a member of the New York Society of Securities Analysts. Today, there are more than 78,000 charter holders in more than 134 nations.
