Ramp from I-65 north to I-80/94 West Closed During Nighttime Construction

GARY, Ind.- The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces lane and ramp restrictions will take place Oct. 24-26 as construction progresses on the Major Moves New Construction interchange improvement project at I-80/94 (the Frank Borman Expressway) and I-65.

The restrictions include:

  • From midnight to 5 a.m. Oct. 24-26, the ramp from northbound I-65 to westbound I-80/94 will be closed during placement of concrete beams for the I-65 northbound bridge over the ramp. A posted detour will direct traffic to take eastbound I-80/94 to the clover leaf ramps at State Road 51 (Ripley Street) to I-80/94 west.
  • From 9 p.m. Oct. 25 to 5 a.m. Oct. 26, the right lane of northbound I-65 between 35th Avenue and the I-80/94 interchange will be restricted in accordance with the placement of concrete beams.

Also, beginning this morning, southbound I-65 traffic was restricted from accessing the Ridge Road off ramp as a safety precaution. In the current construction configuration, traffic from the eastbound I-80/94 to southbound I-65 ramp was crisscrossing too much with southbound I-65 traffic accessing the Ridge Road ramp in a limited space. So beginning today, southbound I-65 traffic wishing to access Ridge Road is being directed to 61st Avenue east to I-65 north and to Ridge Road. When the interchange improvement is complete, a new ramp will be available for I-65 south traffic to access Ridge Road.
