MFP Tags: Government by Whom? or is it What?Topics: Arts

So Do we Truely have any Qulified Canidates worthy of our Votes?

We have a Two (2) party System.  I don't know about ya-all, but that sounds more like a couple of old folks, not a "party".

I would like to see many more hats in the arena, and mostly ones from out of the "common" folks of We The People. and much less from the affluent few.  Maybe then we could really say that we have a government Of the people, By the people and For the people.  It seems there is little to our "representation" when you look at the education, affluence, and experience of our "Professional Political Class" of representatives.

For this reason, I propose we limit all Political terms to Two Terms without severance pay, without perks, without retirement, without opportunity for a third term anywhere except at some other level or form of government position.  I would like the Post Office allow past government service apply toward eventual retirement, but only at the end of retirement age.  In the mean time if they want to be professional politicians, they can transit between federal, state and local government positions til they reach retirement age.  With No Exceptions we can no longer afford to pay out retirement dollars from the public coffers to people who have grown insult in their performance of their fiduciary duty to the public trust they were suppose to have served.

The same is true of many Public Service positions, in that although they serve a needed function, the retirement costs are to high to warrant continuation of a populace that is not performing the work we are earning wages and paying taxes for.  I do believe we have some wonderful people working in government, but that at the same time there is something about working in government, that changes people.  And that change is Not for the Better.

At a time when we see so many connections to special interest and influence peddling at a criminal level of influence upon our Elected and Appointed Officials, I have come to believe we own them nothing but to keep them from further degradation and suffering further abuse of position.  We are doing ourselves a great disservice by allowing the current term limits to continue.  I believe we will ultimately benefit by have a more "common Class" of cross cultural representation by limiting terms and adopting a more direct form of government intervention by the People.  This would more then offset any loss of expertise, or education that may develop from less professionalism.

At the same time, I believe we can Lower the wages paid and staff in direct proportion to what we expect and insist they represent us on.  The possible savings are significant all things considered; and could be instituted within a reasonably short period of time and does not have to be set in stone to irrefutably change any part of our Current Constitutions.
