Two Vehicle Crash on I-65 Injures Two

MARION COUNTY, IN - On Thursday, October 25, 2007 at  11:25 a.m., Indiana State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on I-65 at the 123.8 mile-marker that injured 2 men from Monon, Indiana.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Andrew Conwell, 68, of Monon was driving his 2003 Ford van southbound in the left lane when for an unknown reason left the roadway crossing the grass median into the northbound lanes.  Conwell's vehicle struck the trailer of a northbound 2002 Volvo semi tractor-trailer being driven by Antonio Navaro, 24, of Cicero, Illinois.  Conwell's vehicle continued across all 3 lanes of the northbound traffic, driving off of the roadway, striking a tree before coming to final rest.

Conwell was entrapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated.  He was taken to Methodist Hospital where he was treated for internal injuries.  Conwell's passenger, Donald Street, 75, of Monon, was also taken to Methodist Hospital where he was treated for head injuries and lacerations.  Navaro was not injured.  The right and center lanes of northbound I-65 were closed for approximately one hour while troopers investigated this crash.
