Grissom PTO and Teachers Host ‘Trick or Treat’ Math Carnival

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Grissom Elementary Parent Teacher Organization and Grissom Elementary teachers are partnering to host a new Fall family event.  A “Trick-or-Treat for Math” Carnival will take place Tuesday, October 30, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. for all Grissom Elementary students and their parents.

Upon arrival at the Carnival, students will be given a “passport” to visit each booth and participate in short math activities for a prize or treat.  After completing all the math activities, the students will show their passports and receive refreshments.

Cathy Whittemore, math interventionist for the school, says there also will be a pumpkin decorating contest and a photo booth for students and their families.  The Carnival will be held in the school’s gym and cafeteria.

Mrs. Whittemore says, “Come join us for fun with math and a safe trick-or-treating experience!” Pam Necessary, first-year principal at Grissom Elementary, says, “I am impressed with the hard work of the teachers here. It should be a fun time.”

In addition to the Math Carnival, the PTO has partnered with the math interventionists to provide the software program “Quarter Mile,” a math racing game, to all Grissom families that have internet service in their homes. Those free CDs were being given to families at Parent/Teacher conferences yesterday and today. The racing game is designed to increase a child’s math fact skills when used at home.
