Town Hall Meeting To Focus On Health Disparities In Allen County
INDIANAPOLIS , IN - Despite recent studies about America's progress in overall health, racial and ethnic minorities continue to experience health disparities and higher rates of mortality in their communities.
The Indiana State Department of Health created the Office of Minority Health in 1991 to focus efforts on educating and improving preventable health conditions among the African-American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino, Native American Indian, and Pacific Islander communities.
The Office of Minority Health in collaboration with the Allen County Health Disparity Coalition, Indiana Minority Health Coalition, and the Northeast Indiana Area Health Education Center will host a town hall meeting this week to address disparities affecting minority communities in Fort Wayne. The keynote speaker will be Antoinette Holt, Deputy Director, Indiana State Department of Health Office of Minority Health. Additionally, a local panel will discuss diabetes, mental health, and nutrition/obesity.
