U.S. 6 to Close Periodically While Comcast Relocates Overhead Lines
Periodical closures scheduled between 11 p.m. Oct. 31 and 6 a.m. Nov. 1
PORTERCOUNTY, IN - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces that U.S. 6 between Swanson and County Line roads in Porter County will be periodically closed between 11 p.m. Oct. 31 and 6 a.m. Nov. 1 while Comcast continues to relocate its overhead lines.
This work is part of the $32 million Major Moves added travel lanes project on approximately 3.2 miles of U.S. 6 between Union Street in Hobart and Scottsdale Road in Portage. Once completed, the current two-lane roadway will be converted into four lanes with designated turn lanes at certain intersections, an updated drainage system, sidewalks and updated traffic signals. Construction began in June 2007 and is scheduled for completion in May 2009.
Major Moves fully funds a decade of critical highway projects in Indiana. When Major Moves is complete in 2015, more than 200 new construction and 200 major highway preservation projects will have been built. This innovative plan will bring jobs to the Hoosier State and leave a legacy for Indiana to be a global leader in distribution and logistics.
