Questions to Ask Yourself Before Casting Your Ballot
By C.A. Bouslog
If you have researched the issues and the candidates you are prepared to vote. After researching both, you may come to the realization that your vote most likely will be split among two or more parties. That's because an informed vote allows for voting for the person, not the party.
Here are some questions to ask of your candidates and to ask of yourself before you go into the voting booth:
- Does the candidate support the reduction of local government spending by the elimination or consolidation of multiple layers of government?
- Will the candidate maintain an office of transparency and accountability?
- Will the candidate continue to effectively respond to public input and complaints throughout his/her term?
- Has your candidate of choice been forthright, fully disclosed plans for this community, and effectively answered your questions and concerns during the course of his/her campaign?
- Will your candidate reject the practices of nepotism and cronyism and appoint only qualified individuals to departments and positions?
Responsible, responsive government: No more, no less!
