Welsh Comments on Abortion Provider Prohibition Act of 2007
CONNERSVILLE, IN - Democratic candidate for the Indiana 6th Congressional District Barry Welsh released the following statement today in response to Congressman Mike Pence's introduction of the Abortion Provider Prohibition Act of 2007 yesterday. "I share Congressman Pence's desire to see the number of unwanted pregnancies and the rate of termination decline, but cutting funding for Planned Parenthood is simply not the answer.
I wish that Congressman Pence shared my concern for children after they were born and not just the unborn and would break lockstep with President Bush and join those of us who are in favor of Children's Health Care and S-CHIP.
I am shocked that with job loss, high gas prices, heating costs, tax burdens on the middle class, the occupation of Iraq costing this country both in loss of life and loss of tax dollars, and the destabilization of Pakistan, that Congressman Pence finds challenging the rights of women his priority. This further shows the Congressman's disconnect with the citizens of this district and their concerns and thus the need for change. I will bring that change."
