All Super 70 Lanes and Ramps Reopened to Traffic
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Effective at 1:30 a.m. on Friday, November 16, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has reopened all Super 70 lanes and ramps to unrestricted traffic. Motorists should stay alert when driving through the Super 70 zone as other drivers get accustomed to the new traffic pattern.
Although major construction has ended for Super 70, the project has not yet been completed. Work will continue through mid-2008 for projects such as bridge beam painting, erosion control, grading and electrical work. During off-peak hours, contractors are permitted occasional single lane closures on I-70 to complete these finishing touches.
Dubbed Super 70 due to its size and schedule, the $175 million reconstruction of I-70 on the eastside will go on record as one of INDOT's safest and most ambitious road projects. Contractor Walsh Construction will likely receive about half of the maximum $1.8 million incentive for reopening the highway to traffic early.
