I-65 lanes Restricted and I-80/94 Interchange Ramp Closed Nov. 20-21

GARY, IN - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces northbound I-65 lanes will be restricted and the ramp from northbound I-65 to westbound I-80/94 (the north-west ramp) will be closed the night of Nov. 20 and early morning of Nov. 21 during a traffic pattern shift. This work is part of theMajor Moves New Construction interchange improvement project at Interstate 65 and Interstate 80/94 (the Frank Borman Expressway).

  • From 9 p.m. Nov. 20 to midnight Nov. 21, approximately 0.5 miles of the right lane of northbound I-65 south of Ridge Road will be restricted;
  • From midnight to 5 a.m. Nov. 21, the right and center lanes of northbound I-65 in the same area will be restricted;
  • Beginning at 9 p.m. Nov. 20, the ramp from Ridge Road to northbound I-65 will be closed until barrier wall is placed on I-65 so that Ridge Road traffic will only be able to access the north-west ramp. The detour will be I-65 south to 61st Avenue to I-65 north; and
  • Between midnight and 5 a.m. Nov. 21, the north-west ramp will be closed. A posted detour will direct traffic to take eastbound I-80/94 to the clover leaf ramps at State Road 51 (Ripley Street) to I-80/94 west.

During these restrictions, temporary pavement marking will be placed so northbound I-65 and north-west ramp traffic can be shifted to the east. This will allow new pavement construction to continue on northbound I-65.

INDOT reminds drivers that southbound I-65 traffic is currently restricted from accessing the Ridge Road off ramp. Until concrete barrier wall is soon installed to prevent I-65 traffic from illegally cutting across, INDOT reminds I-65 drivers that to slow down and cut across the limited space is a severe safety hazard. Southbound I-65 traffic wishing to access Ridge Road is being directed to 61st Avenue east to I-65 north and to Ridge Road. When the interchange improvement is complete, a new ramp will be available for I-65 south traffic to access Ridge Road.

Major Moves fully funds a decade of critical highway projects in Indiana. When Major Moves is complete in 2015, more than 200 new construction and 200 major highway preservation projects will have been built. This innovative plan will bring jobs to the Hoosier State and leave a legacy for Indiana to be a global leader in distribution and logistics.

NO FUN PAY ATTENTION & DRIVE SAFE

I just drove through that construction ZONE ( many miles )  & if you have to go anywhwere near that area take 74 out of Indianapolis instead of taking 65N.   Take 74W. to Bloomington, Il.  take 39N the rest of the way to northern Il. and HWY 80/90 . This will save you a couple of hours at least !!!  If your going to North Chicago you have many options from there .
