INDOT Advises Motorists to Travel Safely over the Thanksgiving Holiday

NDIANAPOLIS, IN  - The Thanksgiving holiday will be a busy travel time on Indiana highways and interstates, with a projected number of 38.7 million travelers using the nation's highways.  The Indiana Department of Transportation is (INDOT) would like to remind motorists to drive safely, plan for heavy traffic and be aware of possible construction activities during the upcoming holiday. Additionally, with winter just around the corner, INDOT reminds motorists that weather conditions can change rapidly, and to make sure vehicles are ready snow, sleet, ice and colder temperatures.

"We want Hoosiers and our out-of-state motorists to travel safely during this busy Thanksgiving holiday," said INDOT Commissioner Karl B. Browning. "Motorists can have a safe holiday travel season by always wearing a seatbelt, following posted speed limits and being aware of changing traffic patterns and road conditions."

Motorists can also log on to TrafficWise, INDOT's online system that provides live camera views of traffic conditions in the central and northwest Indiana metro areas. TrafficWise allows motorists to check traffic conditions on freeways before they leave home. Go to INDOT's home page at www.in.gov/indot and click on Motorist Information, and then link to the TrafficWise site at the bottom of the page.  INDOT Traffic Management Centers in Indianapolis and Gary will update motorists on road conditions throughout this holiday weekend.
