Indiana State Police Request Public's Assistance with Shooting

CASS COUNTY, IN -  On Sunday, November 11, 2007, at approximately 11:18 p.m., Officers from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department and Logansport Police Department responded to a 911 call at 2077 S. Burlington Ave., Logansport, IN. Upon arrival, officers found 87-year-old Charles Lane had sustained a gun shot wound to his left hand.

Lane was allegedly shot during a robbery attempt at the residence. He was transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The gunshot severed an artery in Lane’s hand.

The Indiana State Police is leading the investigation and is requesting the public’s assistance. The suspect in the shooting is described as a male wearing a dark hooded coat or sweatshirt. He fled northbound on foot down Burlington Avenue in the area of the U.S. 35 overpass.

If anyone witnessed a male matching that description, running or walking between 11:00 p.m. and 11:20 p.m., on November 11, should call Indiana State Police Detective Mike Tarrh at 1-800-382-0689.

Detective Tarrh would also like information on any suspicious vehicles parked between the scene of the shooting and the American Legion located at 828 Burlington Ave.
