Traffic Stop Yields Marijuana and Handgun
FULTON COUNTY, IN - Monday, at approximately 7:59 p.m., Indiana State Police Trooper Mike Meiser used radar to clock a 2005 Chrysler allegedly traveling northbound on U.S. 31 at 80 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone. Trooper Meiser stopped the Chrysler near County Road 550 North.
The driver, Shevorn L. Gary, 32, Elkhart, IN, allegedly gave Trooper Meiser another person's name and identifying information. After Trooper Meiser obtained the correct information a license check revealed Gary was driving after having been deemed a habitual traffic violator. Further investigation by Trooper Meiser and Fulton County Canine Officer Kerry Brouyette with his police dog Bojar revealed the possible presence of illegal narcotics in the Chrysler.
A search of the vehicle purportedly revealed five plastic bags containing a total weight of approximately 150 grams of suspected marijuana. Officers also confiscated a 45 caliber handgun from Otis C. Moore, 32, Indianapolis, IN. Moore was a passenger who did not have a handgun permit.
Gary and Moore were arrested and incarcerated in the Fulton County Jail. Gary is facing a class D felony charge of operating a vehicle while being a habitual traffic violator. Moore is facing two class D felony charges of dealing marijuana over 30 grams and possession of marijuana over 30 grams. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of possessing a handgun without a permit. Bond was $7,500 for both men.
The suspected marijuana has a total street value of approximately $900.00.
