Weaving Workshop at Turkey Run State Park on December 1

INDIANA - Guests can make a warm scarf for winter during a winter weaving workshop at Turkey Run State Park, Dec. 1.

This program is appropriate for adults and older children. Each workshop participant will create a simple loom, and then weave a scarf in the color of his or her choice. Combining a uniquely beautiful texture with warm practicality, these scarves make wonderful gifts for the holidays.

The workshop is at the Nature Center, 10:30 a.m. to noon. A fee of $7 per person includes all materials.

Those who want to make this a full-day event can go early to help feed the birds outside the Nature Center at 9:30 a.m., then stay late and attend a planetarium star program featuring winter planets and constellations, at 2 p.m. A one-hour tour of the 1841 Salmon Lusk Home takes place at 3 p.m. There is no charge for these three programs.

Picnic tables and grills are available for a hardy winter picnic lunch. For those who prefer an indoor meal, the park's inn sports a full-service restaurant.

The Nature Center will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, and features a working honeybee display, bird observation area, interactive exhibits, live native snakes and turtles, and a small gift shop. For more information, please call (765) 597-2654.

Indiana residents pay a gate fee of $5/car to enter the park. Non-residents pay $7/car.
