Peru Post Receives Three Probationary Troopers

PERU, IN - Recently, Indiana State Police Peru District increased its man power with the addition of Probationary Troopers Cicely Gasvoda, Josh Maller, and Todd Trottier. They were among 82 members of the 68th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy which graduated Friday, December 21, 2007.

While in the academy, the probationary troopers received approximately 840 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques. Their curriculum included 80 hours of criminal law instruction, 50 hours of emergency vehicle operations training, 30 hours of psychology, and 40 hours of "Survival Spanish." They also developed skills in criminal investigation, vehicle crash investigation, self-defense, firearms, and impaired driver detection and apprehension.

The three probationary officers are currently in the 14 week field training program. The field training program pairs them with veteran officers and allows them to put the skills and knowledge gained in the academy setting into real life practice in the field.  Upon successful completion of the field training program they will receive their own police cars and begin solo patrol responsibilities.

He and his wife Ashley reside in Wabash County. Josh Maller is the son of Master Trooper Jan Maller, a 21 year veteran of the Indiana State Police. At the successful completion of his field training Josh Maller will patrol Miami County.

Probationary Trooper Todd Trottier is a 1994 graduate of Culver Community High School. He and his wife Mollie reside in Fulton County with their eight-year-old son and four-year-old daughter.
