Brad Maine, assistant principal of Northside Middle School, loses battle to cancer
MUNCIE, IN - The office of the Superintendent of Muncie Community Schools has learned that Brad Maine, assistant principal of Northside Middle School, died earlier today. Upon learning the news, Superintendent Dr. Marlin Creasy said “Muncie Community Schools is deeply saddened to learn of Brad’s death and we extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Katie, to his young daughter, and to his family. Brad fought a courageous battle with cancer and Muncie Community Schools has lost a valued young administrator.”
Dr. Creasy will pass along funeral arrangements as they become available from the family.
Mr. Maine was named Assistant Principal of Northside Middle School in the summer of 2006. Before his administrative assignment, Mr. Maine was a teacher at Wilson Middle School for four years. He was known as a compassionate young man who wanted to make a difference in the lives of students in that age group. Northside Middle School hosted a corporation-wide fundraiser in October to help defray health care costs for the Maine family and netted over $7,000. His lifelong friend and Central High School Technology Teacher Justin Oliver among others coordinated a golf outing that raised over $13,000 for the Maines.
Northside Middle School Principal Christopher E. Smith said he knew Mr. Maine was well respected by the NMS faculty. Smith informed the staff and faculty of Mr. Maine’s death immediately after school today. Students by grade level will be told tomorrow and the school’s two guidance counselors will be available. School counselors have hung a banner in the building on which sentiments can be written by students to express their thoughts.
Mr. Maine was a graduate of Delta High School and held a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree with a building level administrator’s license from Ball State University, Muncie, IN.
