Not doing Business as Usual
If you need to contact me; call me on 765-747-1934 our home phone, as we are about to have to interrupt our business line service and internet.
No Latitude Left to do business as usual; Not any more, Not in Muncie Indiana, or Delaware County. Not seeing as how little traffic we have seen come our way this past holiday season or now after the first of the new year. It is now confirmed we are in a serious depressing circumstance and am forced to admit that the hopefulness I had at the beginning of the season is all but disappearing.
We had invested in the "Usual" seasonal items' and prepared for the winter as best we could and insured we were poised to do our best for our community and ourselves as a family operated local shop. The problem is one of sheer numbers of folks, so reduced to the extent that we are unable to keep the phone service and internet on. Even though we are well diversified and very well known about; I can only point to the Governments ability to infuse fear enough into the local population folks are fearful of spending their hard earned money, dip into some savings and are being careful about credit use
Now that by itself does not explain the whole picture, as much of what we can't currently afford to continue in is some of what I decided to "try" to make us better "Marketed" in our area and be more "available" to the general public. One thing I did, that I maybe shouldn't have is sign-up for cell phone service. Not that the phone or the service is a bad deal, but it is proving to be less "manageable" then I thought it would otherwise be. Another thing I am finding, is that many of the big operations are quicker step in and disconnect a service then in months or years past. Mind you we always pay and pay the late fees and any thing we justly own; but of late it is more then we can continue to "justify" with our current circumstances.
I had signed up in good faith and am continuing in good faith, but I have no real control as things have become day to day and hand to mouth around here among many of our area residents. Even the Government workers we usually see are not showing up an of much help, although all and any help is greatly appreciated and always welcome. It is a sheer numbers game; and the numbers are not supporting the existing need.
I have friends that ask about trying this or that and of course, I have thought about doing, and done, many of the different things they suggest, to help cope or reverse the current situation; all so far, to no avail. I think it has come done to a matter of too little, too late; and the need most folks are feeling to just hedge against the existing needs and an unsure future for their own livelihoods. They are NOT Guaranteed anything beyond what is in their hands, and they are coping with the reality of jobs being brought in are not paying a Living wage and many are not even paying a Rent Wage.
Please Understand; that a living wage still does NOT allow for Recreation, Health, Home and Life insurance, nor does it allow a lot of latitude to be allowed for anything more then basic needs being met. That is right, Basic Needs; Food, Shelter, Clothing, utilities (if kept in check) and only for self and spouse. So with so many non-living wage jobs replacing high paying jobs lost to the economy and global market and outsourcing, it is no wonder we are experiencing what we are experiencing. Government just doesnt seem to understand, that We The People can't continue to do business the way we did when we had high paying jobs in our area. It is way beyond time, for Government at every level to reduce the amount of people in government jobs and the overall cost of government to bring it into the new reality of what now exists and is being promoted within the market place for employment as being developed right now. We don't need more government and more government services, we need more latitude and ability to earn a living wage.
From what I am seeing, hearing, and feeling of late; we are already well in to a deepening depression in our state area. I know I don't have many decisions left that I can make to cut any more then I am willing or able to do. After today, it is either this or revolt of the old fashion type. I don't have much left to lose; and I am herewith serving notice, that I will not be pushed into debt to pay taxes to a government I consider is more a part of the problem then part of the solution. I love my Country, but I don't trust my Government. I have fought and served this Country and this People for many years and am not now going to suffer losing our home and homestead to taxes and unending spiraling Government Cost increases.
If our Government won't make the changes needed then We The People aside from our Representatives will need to make the needed changes to save our Communities and this State; form those who have misused and abused their positions of public trust. We can't wait two to four more years and I for one won't wait six more months; I am being forced to do what we must do due to economic conditions and that is all there is to it. End of any more rants on this subject and the Government edicts can't amount any more then a tinkers dam, when you are out of options.
