Letter: Obama for President

By Pat L. Smith

I am a 56 year old married white female from the Muncie area (most people assume I’m for Hillary, but I’m not).  I will be traveling to New York City on January 26th to campaign for Senator Barack Obama in the February 5th primary.

As you know the Indiana primary is not until May.  I did not want to just sit here in Muncie and “hope”  that the rest of the country recognizes the power of their vote. In America we have the privilege and the freedom to do more than hope. (And Muncie should know that every vote counts!)

I want to elect a president with integrity, moral character, a communicator with a command of the English language and a problem solver. Someone who will listen to new ideas with an open mind and lead this country and the world in a positive direction.  I want a president to represent the American spirit that was created by our forefathers when they never gave up the idea of a free democracy.  Every generation has been blessed with leaders who have repeatedly renewed the meaning of America. We need that kind of leader today.

I will be traveling with my 83 year old dad to stay with family.  My 16 year old niece, who lives in NY, is also a Obama supporter.  We represent three generations of “hope”.  NONE of us will be able to vote in NY on Feb. 5th, but we can convince other Americans who may be undecided or are voting for the first time how important their vote is at this time in history. People have told me that we cannot make a difference because we can’t vote in NY.  My reply is YES WE CAN !!

And you can, too.  Go to www.BarackObama.com and look at all the states that will be voting on Feb. 5th.  If you have family or friends living in those states call or e-mail them and urge them to VOTE. Get involved anyway you possibly can. Time is of the greatest importance. Take time TODAY to find out how you can help elect Senator Obama as our next President of the United States.  If you want me to speak and tell my personal stories of hope to your church or organization, please contact me.

I lived thru the civil rights movement. Race is not an issue with me.  I lived thru the equal rights movement, so gender is not an issue with me.  I don’t like labels, so don’t call me a democrat, a republican, or a libertarian.  Don’t label me a liberal or a conservative.  Call me an AMERICAN !!
