Pence Statement on the State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence issued the following statement in response to the President’s State of the Union address:

"Tonight the American people heard from a president who, like our union, is determined to stand for what is right at home and abroad. They heard the resolve of a president committed to ensuring a strong America.

“At home, the president challenged Congress to take action to address the economy in the short and long-term. By calling for Congress to put our fiscal house in order, reduce pork barrel spending and make tax relief permanent, the president laid out a template for economic renewal.

“The president expressed the need to support our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and give our intelligence community the tools they need to keep our nation secure. By describing the widening American success in Iraq, the president gave hope to millions of Americans who long to see our soldiers return home successful.

“By reminding the American people that his opposition to funding unethical research was vindicated by recent scientific breakthroughs, this president proved that it is still possible to stand for traditional values in an ever-changing world.

“Resolve, determination and a commitment to do what's right was the message the nation heard from this American president."
