Consulting Firm to Hold Public Sessions to Develop Community Profile of Future MCS Superintendent

MUNCIE, IN - To assist in the search for a superintendent for Muncie Community Schools, the consulting firm of Bickert Group, LTD. will visit Muncie Wednesday, February 13, to hear input from corporation employees, parents, students, and members of the community to begin building a profile for a superintendent who will fill the position following the retirement of Dr. Marlin B. Creasy June 27, 2008.

Board of School Trustees President Julius Anderson has announced that Dr. Ronald E. Barnes, search chairperson, and two additional consultants from the firm, will set aside this day to lead small group sessions at which persons can share qualities they feel a successor to the current superintendent must possess. Dr. Barnes, who has lead some 200 superintendent searches since 1990, including the search for a superintendent of Muncie Community Schools in 1998, has shared that four questions will be directed to those attending the sessions: 1) What are the strengths of the school corporation? 2) What are some of the significant issues facing Muncie Community Schools?

3) What are the attributes of a person to be successful as the superintendent of Muncie Community Schools? and 4) Would you share any additional information that may be helpful in the search for your superintendent?

Three simultaneous discussion meetings will begin at 8 a.m. at the Anthony Administration Building when school board members, the superintendent’s staff, and directors will meet with a consultant. Throughout the day, school employees, parents, school PTO/PTA members, community leaders, civic and government leaders, labor leaders, and student leaders will have the opportunity to meet in groups to discuss expectations of a future superintendent. Other individuals in the community may choose to attend a time slot best suited to their area of involvement in the schools or community.

At 3:30 p.m., all corporation employees are invited to attend one of two meetings to be held in the auditoriums of Central and Southside high schools to engage in discussion concerning the superintendent search. At 7 p.m., a meeting for the general public will take place at Northside Middle School at which time any member of the public may attend to share ideas about the hiring of the superintendent of Muncie Community Schools.
