Hagerstown Man Announces run for District 54 Seat

HAGERSTOWN, IN - Rex Bell, of Hagerstown, has announced his intention to seek the Libertarian Party’s nomination for the District 54 seat in the Indiana House of Representatives. Bell ran unsuccessfully for the seat in 2006 against Republican Tom Saunders of Lewisville, and Democrat David Sadler of New Castle. District 54 includes portions of Henry, Randolph and Wayne counties.

“I told Representative Saunders after he had won the 2006 election that if they didn’t get the property tax mess straightened out I would be back in 2008” said Bell. “They’ve had two years, and while they are trying to do some shuffling in the way they collect taxes, I can’t see that they are cutting any spending that will result in any actual savings to the taxpayers. Cutting spending is the only way to cut taxes. Our current legislators apparently aren’t willing to make those cuts. I’m running for office to give people a way to vote for lower taxes and the complete elimination of property taxes.”

Bell, 55, is a self-employed home builder. He and his wife Susan are the parents of three children and the grandparents of three granddaughters. He is currently serving on the Hagerstown Plan Commission, the Hagerstown Board of Zoning Appeals, and the New Castle Area Vocational School Building Trades Advisory Board.

Bell’s stand on various issues affecting the citizens of District 54 can be found on his website, www.electRexBell.com.
