Deadline nears for American Masterpieces Grant Application

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced today two upcoming deadlines for non-profit arts organziations interested in participating in the American Masterpieces Program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

Organizations must submit a letter of intent to apply for the program, and the letter of intent must be received by the Indiana Arts Commission no later than 4:30 p.m. EST March 3, 2008. The grant application deadline is April 1, 2008.

All letters of intent and grant applications must be submitted online utilizing the IAC's electronic grant application system. Applicants must also submit one (1) signed and dated hard copy of their application to the IAC.

A detailed explanation of the American Masterpieces Program, program guidelines, letter of intent and application may all be found on the IAC website by searching under "grants available."

The American Masterpieces Program awards funds to organizations using the works of American Masters through touring, local presenting, and arts education programs. Programming may be in virtually any discipline, but the works upon which the programming is based must be artistically, historically and culturally significant. The program is designed to showcase the best of American arts by utilizing significant American composers, choreographers, playwrights, photographers, writers, visual artists, and filmmakers.

In 2007, the IAC awarded a total of $57,500 to nine organizations. A similar amount of funding is expected from the NEA for the next grant period.

On behalf of the people of Indiana, the Indiana Arts Commission advocates engagement with the arts to enrich the quality of individual and community life.
