Mayor McShurley continues contract with Beasley & Gilkison, LLP, as City Attorney

MUNCIE, IN - Mayor Sharon McShurley announced today that Beasley & Gilkison, LLP, has been retained as legal council for the City of Muncie. Through the contractual agreement, the firm will cover all legal services for the City including:

1) General legal advice to the Mayor, Controller, Department Heads and other administration needs,
2) attendance at and legal services for Muncie City Court,
3) attendance at and legal services for Muncie Police and Fire Commissions,
4) attendance at City Council meetings,
5) monitoring of insurance claims,
6) defend or prosecute all other claims and suits against or by the City of Muncie and
7) represent the City of Muncie on employment issues under labor contracts and
8) attend and provide legal council for municipal boards and commissions.

Under statute the Mayor is required to appoint a legal department and, as a result, the City of Muncie benefits from having an entire law firm
at its disposal for legal matters. Beasley and Gilkison, LLC provides the City with nine attorneys specializing in certain areas in addition
to support staff. Pro bono services are provided to the City for any services provided over and above contract amount.
