Mayor McShurley appoints new Chief of Police

MUNCIE, IN  - On Friday, February 8, 2008, Mayor Sharon McShurley announced the appointment of Captain Deborah Davis as the Chief of the Muncie Police Department.

Davis will succeed Joe Winkle, who served under former Mayor Dan Canan. Captain Davis previously served as the Administrative Captain for the Department and has been on the police force since 1980.

Her experience includes serving as Captain of the uniform division; director of the training division; member of the drug task force; lieutenant in internal affairs; and a mounted patrol officer.

Her education includes the FBI Academy, Police Executive Leadership Academy, the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and various other professional development experiences.

Davis is a member of numerous professional associations including the FBI National Academy and is a Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Instructor. Notably as Chief, Davis is the first female to ever hold the position for the City of Muncie. Davis will assume duties Monday, February 11, 2008.
